Re: [Utah-astronomy] U.S Presidential Candidates Release Space Policies
So what, a fighter pilot none-the-less. At least he served. In some capacity. Guts trump academics. Quoting erikhansen@TheBlueZone.net:
Was a fighter pilot, squeaked through academics at Annapolis, perhaps his admiral father pulled strings to keep him in the USNA. He does have intelligence but has promised deep cuts in spending (billions), seems improbable that NASA will escape these spending cuts.
I'm pretty sure McCain has a grasp on most things space related. The
guy is a fighter pilot which requires a certain amount of intelligence. Of course he isn't a park ranger... His loss I suppose.
Quoting erikhansen@TheBlueZone.net:
McCain does not use the newfangled internet.
I'll get you his email address.
Quoting Kevin Poe <iamthedarkranger@gmail.com>:
Not much meat in McCain's plans. And somebody should tell him its probably a bad idea to "fly into the stars" better to go around them I think. I wonder if he knows we have nothing in our wildest dreams capable of interstellar travel assuming that's what he meant....?

You know, I doubt we will reach agreement here. I suspect that if one is having open heart surgery, academics and learning become more important than the ability to win a knife fight in a back alley. On the other hand, if looking for an escort for your child through a bad section of the city, the ability to win a fight becomes a little higher on the list. Regarding politics, if one has factual information to put out here, fine, but let's let the facts speak for themselves, without resorting to gratuitous commentary on what the facts say about the brain or brawn of the candidate. There is enough of that on shout radio, I hate to see it intrude here. Jo Quoting diveboss@xmission.com:

What Josephine said. In this forum, I would prefer to restrict comments about the candidates to those that relate to astronomy and space exploration. We’ll have enough political nastiness during the next couple of months without the need to discuss such things here. I think I’ll vote for Ralph Nader. ;-) Kim -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Josephine Grahn Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 1:30 PM To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] U.S Presidential Candidates ReleaseSpace Policies You know, I doubt we will reach agreement here. Ok, electing McCain means NASA cuts, if his statements are to be accepted. I know a lot of people who think space exploration should be cut from government funding. I'm voting for Paris Hilton.
