For those who may not have heard, Utah will have a transit of Mercury next year on 09 May. Info here: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/transit/catalog/MercuryCatalog.html Looks like we will miss ingress with the Sun rising with the transit already in progress. Egress will be early afternoon. patrick
Thanks for the heads up Patrick. It looks like we'll be able to see it here in Cordoba also. Now, to find a way to look at it. Brent, send me a mailing address. I can put together a spotting scope with white-light filter & tripod, and send it to you before the transit. On Thu, Jun 11, 2015 at 7:19 AM, Brent Watson via Utah-Astronomy < utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Chuck, Here is the mailing address: Elder Brent WatsonCordoba Argentina TempleAvenida Pedro LaPlace 5647CP51475009CordobaArgentina Packages should be marked as missionary supplies with a value of less than 5.00 to even have a chance of getting through. Now, the unfortunate truth is that it would in all likelihood not get here. Someone along the way would find a nice scope and it would be short circuited. I did bring a small pair of binoculars along, and a better solution would probably be to send some Baader film in a regular envelope as a letter. The binos are only 10X25, and I thought I'd do eyepiece projection. Thanks for the offer, though. Brent, I'm glad you are still in contact with us. Granted, its the internet, but you are a long way away. Regarding the transit, didn't you boast about having access to a 60" scope on Friday nights? Surely, for such an event, the scope would be available :) Though I doubt Chuck could provide a sufficiently large amount of baeder film in a letter envelope for that scope. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brent Watson via Utah-Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> To: "Chuck Hards" <chuck.hards@gmail.com>, "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, June 11, 2015 10:08:36 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] 2016 transit of Mercury Chuck, Here is the mailing address: Elder Brent WatsonCordoba Argentina TempleAvenida Pedro LaPlace 5647CP51475009CordobaArgentina Packages should be marked as missionary supplies with a value of less than 5.00 to even have a chance of getting through.
