Many thanks to SLAS and Wayne Sumner for an excellent presentation last night. My only regret is that due to time constraints, we didn't get the full 2-period presentation. I may audit that class at Northridge fall semester! I took a 300-series astronomy class in college that included star evolution, but that was more than a third of a century ago, and I've probably lost more than a few brain cells along the way. Much new information has been turned-up since then. It was good to see Brent again as well, it's been probably ten years or so, hasn't it, Brent? My goatee wasn't white the last time we spoke face-to-face, lol. Also good to see Scott Crosby make an appearance, and good old Rich Tenney represented Utah county, as usual. Siegfried, I saw you there but didn't get a chance to talk to you and Joe about meteor showers and radiants. ;-) Sorry we couldn't stay for the business section of the meeting or Advanced Training at Dennys. I had to get up at 3:30 this morning and was running on fumes from a long, hot work day even before the meeting started. Hope to see you all again next month!
Good to see you there last night also. On Thu, Aug 22, 2013 at 7:12 AM, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

Chuck, I bet it has been much more than 10 years. It was good to see you again after all that time. I really enjoyed the presentation as well. I have known the general story for many years, but I haven't committed the details to memory. It was good to have the refresher. I remember giving a presentation at a meeting when my first S&T article came out, at the old Hansen Planetarium, and you were there. It might have been one of the last meetings held there. So that would put it around 1999-2000, if I recall correctly. So yep, more than ten years! On Thu, Aug 22, 2013 at 8:30 AM, Brent Watson <brentjwatson@yahoo.com>wrote:

Agreed, it was worth the long drive up from Lindon; I really enjoyed Wayne's presentation and delivery style -- his enthusiasm for the subject shows, and I envy his students. For my college intro to Astronomy class (back in the early 70's) in San Diego, the professor was pretty dull, and probably killed more interest in the topic than he generated among his students (good thing I had already been bitten by "the bug" as a child). Good to spend time among so many good folk in our club as well. /R ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, August 22, 2013 7:12 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Last Night's SLAS Meeting Many thanks to SLAS and Wayne Sumner for an excellent presentation last night. Many thanks, Chuck et al.. What I wouldn't give to have a classroom full of such eager learners as yourselves. One of the joys of being in SLAS or OAS is associating with people who refuse to let their brains rust. It is such a delight to learn and relearn about the amazing world and universe that surrounds us. I only hope I can light fires within my students that will allow them to take as much delight in lifelong learning as you do.
