We had a fun L&O meeting this morning. Siegfried and Bruno attended, Ray, Joe & Corey, Rich, and Norm and Kay as well as myself. We looked over plans for the Jack Newton solar spectroscope; Joe was extremely skeptical of the safety of the whole affair despite Siegfried and I assuring him that he wouldn't burn his eyeballs out with it, so I suppose I'll just have to build one and show him. Much talk of the history of early aviation, Mercury and Venus transits, Browning Arms- Kay is a walking arms encyclopedia! Also a few stories of woodshop teachers we had in our youth, seems they are all cut from the same cloth, lol! Rich took posession of his newly repainted 8" Dynascope tube and finder, done in "Hot Wheels" metallic green. Kay and Norm got some modified parallelogram parts to make it more friendly for 80mm binos, and Kay picked-up his Jaegers 50mm refractor solar-scope/spotter. I brought along my 20x70mm bino, solar filters, and parallelogram but the sun didn't decide to show-up. Kay brought a 70mm bino in need of collimation so I'm going to see if I can bring it back to life.
And the pie was sinfully good!
I'm thinking of the next meeting sometime in mid-March. I'll try and pick a Saturday with as few conflicts with other events as possible, and try for at least 3 weeks advance notice. Bring something for show-and-tell, and have some good stories ready! _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy

And Dan. Of course, if they were skiing today, at least they got to breathe some fresh air, and actually saw the sun! We need to see some other alumni more often. Eric, Joan, Charlie... and we haven't seen Jim Gibson since we were meeting at Lambs. Who else has attended, but not recently? Patrick, you would enjoy it, too. Aviation is often one of the topics of conversation. You don't have to order liver! About half of our regulars don't, or order it maybe every other time. Siegfried, don't tell George that you had it today. He really furrowed his brow when I told him about it at Denny's after the last SLAS meeting. Doctors, what do they know? ;-) On Sat, Jan 26, 2013 at 4:25 PM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

Too early in the day for me. Plus, while I can usually tolerate being around most cooked flesh the odor of liver literally upsets my stomach. But thanks just the same, patrick
One day we'll schedule for later in the afternoon, and get everyone to promise to stick to something that you can be in the same room with. On Sat, Jan 26, 2013 at 5:52 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com>wrote:

Thanks but we already have those. They're called Advanced Training Sessions. LOL! patrick (who can't believe he's actually started using "LOL") On 26 Jan 2013, at 18:05, Chuck Hards wrote:

Saturday March 9th would work for Bruno and myself. Same day as the SCI dinner. On Sat, Jan 26, 2013 at 4:25 PM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

There's a sun party scheduled that day at the Museum, but folks could still make L&O then go to the sun party for 2 hours. Alternatively, we could start L&O at 11:00 AM, giving those who want to go to both nearly 3 hours at the sun party. There are no club events scheduled for the 5th or 19th. The 9th would save Bruno 1 trip from Idaho Falls. Last Saturday he actually made a round trip just for the L&O and, btw, he forgot his certificate. On the 9th we have another event that night and he'll be staying with us for the night anyway. I don't think anyone there was a Sun Party regular except for maybe me and I don't go to the museum. I don't care to carry equipment in that far. Sig On Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 7:36 AM, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

We'll see what happens, and try to accomodate Bruno. The sun party was cancelled and we still didn't get any regulars. I'd like to hit the Winchester Park sun parties this year but the museum is too far to drive for a sun party. Best left to those who lobbied to make that event a regular thing. Wow, I had no idea Bruno traveled from Idaho Falls! It was nice to see him and I hope he comes to a lot of our events.
