According to news reports, he's quite seriously ill. It's quite difficult, since the man's messages are abominable, but I've no wish for him or his family to suffer. I do hope that there's not some sort of misguided sympathy vote in his favor. Having come from outside Utah, I'm well aware of impressions other Americans have. Things like the Olympics or localf medical research have done good things for Utah's reputation. But misguided legislation, such as Buttars current bills, do huge damage to the way the rest of the nation views us. Coincidentally, they do huge damage inside the state as well.

I would like to second Michael sentiment. You can no advocacy advantage by engaging in personal attacks on a proponent, even with they themselves misrepresent the ethics of their opponents. Focusing on the practical lobbying implications, with respect to the substitute no. 2, SB96, the main down side is that in floor debates proponents will attempt to use Sen. Buttars' illness as a means to get a sympathy vote to pass the bill. For those wishing to oppose the bill and who want to send an email to their representative, I would recommend that you (and if you have school age children having them send a separate email) complaining that their valuable school instruction time is already full studying generally accepted maintstream scientific theories and that they do not want their class time taken up with "wacko-junk" science being foisted by an extremist religious minority. An email link to your House representative can be found at: http://www.le.state.ut.us/house/members2005/membertable1add.asp You may wish to also circulate your comment to the editorial pages of the main local newspapers. letters@sltrib.com (NO attachments, requires a name and address). letters@desnews.com (Requries full name, address and phone number). - Canopus56 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
