Forbidden Planet has always been high on my list of favorite SicFi films. A nice trivia point is that the "special effects" (i.e., the id monster) were done by Walt Disney and company. Once you know this, it becomes obvious the next time you see the film. I still get chills as those decade power meters start climbing and the giant safety door begins to get red hot. John R. Peterson
I am seriously thinking about selling my 10" f10 planetary newtonian. Many of you have looked through it, but many of you have not. I'd like to get an idea of what it is worth. I will be selling the optical tube assembly only. Here is a descripttion: 10" parabolic primary by Intermountain Optics, made of Astro Sitall and coated with high efficiency coatings. Focal length is 97.5 inches. Secondary is 7/8", 1/10 wave pyrex and also is high efficiency coated. The scope has no spider, but rather has a 1" thick optical glass (BK7) window that supports the secondary. The window was also fabricated by Intermountain Optics, and then magnesium flouride coated. The tube is 12" diameter .090 thick aluminum, painted with Imron paint, and coated on the inside with cork painted ultra flat black. All cells are custom machined aluminum, and there is a fan in the primary mirror cell that draws air from the eyepiece down the tube and exhausts it out the rear of the tube. The primary adjusts with a push-pull arrangement, and the secondary adjusts with a very easy to use concentric set of threaded rods. All adjustments are quick and can be made from the outside of the tube. The scope includes an 18" (length) tube extension to keep out stray light. Focuser is an Astro Systems, low profile Crayford type. It comes with an 80 mm right angle Lumicon Super Finder with an Amici prism and a 20mm crosshair eyepiece, and a Telrad mount. I will also include a custom formed cradle that allows easy tube rotation. This scope gives refractor-like images of the planets and star clusters, but without the secondary color. One club member who looked at Mars remarked that the image looked like the cover of Sky and Telescope. It is a great scope, but I need to lighten the stable a bit. Any thoughts from the group as to its worth? Brent __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
