Filter test -please ignore-
I'm about to give up on yahoo filters. They do not appear to work. Test #6 ____________________________________________________________________________________ Food fight? Enjoy some healthy debate in the Yahoo! Answers Food & Drink Q&A. http://answers.yahoo.com/dir/?link=list&sid=396545367
I am telling you Chuck, Google mail. I like the search feature. I never lose a thing. -A
Thanks for your patience, folks. Test #6 made it back to me and into the correct folder. I'd appreciate it if one or two of you could post a test message, to see if they are directed into the proper folder as well. What worked was using: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com in the "to" field, with no quotes and non-case specific. If you add quotes, Yahoo adds it's own quotes, so you end up with 2 sets and it won't work. I still seem to experience the occassional post flying off into the tenth dimension, never to be heard from again. Not sure that I can do anything about that. I also discovered the "color" control and get to experience Yahoo email in a whole new technicolor world. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Sucker-punch spam with award-winning protection. Thank you Joe, thank you Ann B. Both messages made it to the correct folder, as did Ann H's message. No more replies needed, I think I have tamed Yahoo for the moment. Ann B., now we're really expecting something good on your next post- don't disappoint us. ;o) --- Ann Blanchard <Ann.Blanchard@utah.edu> wrote:

The C14 group I'm on is having trouble with the spam filter. I just received a message from a subscriber there saying a recent post containing the word "screws" was blocked by the net-nanny. ATMs should keep that in mind. Perchance the word "bolts" should be substituted. And remember it's "unaided eye" not "naked eye". And as Jack Horkeimer found, better not call yourself a "Star Hustler". Well, with that I'm going to grab my "keys" which I "drug" across the tabletop. :) On 22 Feb 2007, at 14:52, Chuck Hards wrote:

This is ridiculous. Context must be taken into account. And if the software isn't up to the task, dump the software. Oops, can I write "dump"? Our ATM hardware is under siege. A bolt is NOT a screw. What about nuts? Shafts? Studs? Rods? Bruce likes to use pipe fittings on his MOUNTS but he'd better not use nipples. "Unaided singularity" instead of naked singularity, when referring to certain black holes? Stupidity. Oh gosh, I suppose "black hole" is verbotten too. The people writing filering software have got to get better at it. It's just not working as it is. If it gets too restrictive then the hell with lists. I can't stand it!!! Quoting Chuck Hards <chuckhards@yahoo.com>: I have a suggestion... Support your local business, the one that gives us the space for this newsgroup for free. Xmission. I have not missed a single e-mail yet. I believe they do e-mail only accounts for $2.50 a month, for those who have comcast or other broadband accounts. They also provide DSL and Utopia. (legal disclosure, a relative works there). This may not be good for everyone, but it does seem that you get what you pay for in this life, and yahoo IS free... Sometimes it is better to pay for good service, rather than complain about free service. Jo

Egads, does that mean the gremlins are just picking on Chuck and me? <grin> I don't think anyone is blaming the UA list for this. It is dutifully receiving and sending out posts. It's what happens after that that seems to be the problem. When I saw that Chuck had subscribed at a second address I decided to do the same thing and subscribed my U of U account. All messages shown on U-A's web site ( http://mailman.xmission.com/lurker/list/ utah-astronomy.en.html ) have made it to my U account but I'm still waiting for the last few to show up on this (my primary) account. So thank you X-Mission (and Cynthia) for the UA list. pw
I echo Patrick's sentiment. We used to use xmission at my place of employment and had massive problems a few years ago. I don't think any provider is trouble-free, all of the time. A person can become somewhat invested in a specific email address after a number of years; it isn't a simple matter to just dump one address in favor of another when a technical problem arises. Having multiple addresses for different purposes can also be difficult to manage. I already have 3 email addresses and find just those 3 a pain (one is for work). Each is with a different provider and all have their own problems at times. -----Original Message----- From: paw@wirelessbeehive.com To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Mon, 26 Feb 2007 2:27 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Re: Bad filters run amok (was: success!) Hey Chuck, I hear you! I had a real dearth of email there from all lists for a while, then a huge flood all of a sudden the last few days. Strange. Probably something happening at Yahoo, trying to get their act together (hopefully). A lot of stuff does end up in the bulk mail folder, so I often find myself doing a quick scan through the many "Make her happy" and "Hot stock tip" and random words thrown together daily spam to make sure legitimate list posts don't get added to the spam filter when I purge it. Nice to know y'all are still out there! Rich --- Chuck Hards <chuckhards@yahoo.com> wrote:
