I was thinking next year's eclipse might literally be a once in a lifetime event, as there hasn't been one near me in my lifetime so far and that's been a long time. But I didn't realize there will be a total eclipse in 2017 in Idaho (I didn't even realize there were ever total eclipses up here), another annular in 2023, and a total right here in 2045. OK, the latter is a ways off, but I guess it's still worth catching next year's annular with a total coming up just 5 years later?

2045 will cover half of Utah. I'll only be 86, so I've marked it on my calendar. ;o) Note that people in Arkansas will get to see both 2024 and 2045. Folks in southern Missouri and Illinois will be on the path of totality for 2017 and 2024. Lucky!
Right on! Hmm, right here in 2045 - can I live that long? It would be a skanky shame to die just before it happens. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Craig Smith" <cs2560@gmail.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 13, 2011 10:32:44 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] North American Eclipses I was thinking next year's eclipse might literally be a once in a lifetime event, as there hasn't been one near me in my lifetime so far and that's been a long time. Actually there are two questions. One will I still be alive. Two, will my mind be working sufficiently for me to comprehend what is going on? On Wed, Sep 14, 2011 at 10:03 AM, <jcarman6@q.com> wrote:
