Fwd: NASA statement regarding Lisa Nowak
Feb. 6, 2007 David Mould/Allard Beutel Headquarters, Washington 202-358-1898/4769 Eileen Hawley/James Rostohar Johnson Space Center, Houston 281-483-5111 RELEASE: 07-23 STATEMENT REGARDING THE STATUS OF LISA NOWAK The following is a statement from Michael Coats, director of NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, regarding the status of astronaut Lisa Nowak. "We are deeply saddened by this tragic event. The charges against Lisa Nowak are serious ones that must be decided by the judicial system. She is officially on 30-day leave and has been removed from flight status and all mission-related activities. We will continue to monitor developments in the case." -end-
I seriously doubt that 30 days will see the end of this in the judicial system! I can't feel sorry for Nowak, she made her choices. Once she has paid any debt to society that might come her way, she still has a future in the public eye. I do hope to see her on Celebrity Boxing one day, taking-on Tonya Harding. --- Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

I hate the Media!! I find it annoying that this case is being described as bizarre, out of the ordinary, and so forth. The reality is that these kinds of things happen on a daily basis. The only difference is the people involved are never NASA Astronauts. The thing to remember is that they are still people. Clearly, Capt. Nowak was in a bad place. Unless you haven't lived life, you can't help but feel compassion for her. Now, her life is so exposed because of who she is. Certainly, she has lived a public life but, not one that has made her name household. She does not deserve the attention that she is getting at this point. It is just terrible and unnecessary. We can only hope for a speedy and fair resolution to all of this. Certainly, the media fiasco has done a lot of damage already. I just hope that there isn't some junior prosecutor working this case. You know, some kid just out of school looking to safe the world. The legal system in this country leaves a lot to desire. On top of that, there is the possibility that military law could be involved. Of course, she is an officer so it will probably be used to protect her from civilian law. It's all very unfortunate. I think NASA has a PR crisis on it's hands. I hope NASA only makes decisions it has to make and nothing beyond that. Remember, this is a very human issue!!! -Rich On 2/6/07, Chuck Hards <chuckhards@yahoo.com> wrote:

I heard an interview with Homer Hickham (Rocket Boy, October Skies) while driving out to this morning's graze and found myself agreeing with him when he said that one good thing could come off all of this and that is that people may now start thinking of astronauts as regular people (albeit with spectacular jobs). But, yes, I agree. I think the media is going overboard with its coverage. Patrick On 07 Feb 2007, at 00:00, Ilove2getSpam@gmail.com wrote:
