Re: [Utah-astronomy] Solar Dynamo article
Very cool! It doesn't seem too far off from what we originally thought. Just more layers of convection. Refining the theory. Its funny this came out now. I just watched the June, 2013 NOVA "Secrets of the Sun" on Youtube recently. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wisdfag6WIQ Bruce Hugo ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Sep 2013 13:11:20 -0600 From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Solar Dynamo article Message-ID: <CAHmuOYp-bbih-fcVBT9Z9Qvso+aaifnFUVkLz2uSb9T_hxx7YA@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Did anybody else read this? http://www.skyandtelescope.com/community/skyblog/newsblog/223291961.html It now appears that our model of solar magnetic-related activity may be in need of serious modification. Interesting!
Adding more convection layers considerably complicates modeling the process, more than you'd think. I find it ironic that as soon as I buy a H-a telescope, we have the weakest solar max on record. On Mon, Sep 16, 2013 at 7:34 PM, Bruce Hugo <bruce.hugo@yahoo.com> wrote:

Must be some kind of karma, I am sure there is much to be learned about the solar cycle and predicting the future of solar activity will always be problematic. Still seems the 11 year cycle driven by magnetic pole shifts is still a valid theory.

Yeah, I'll be sure to contact the researchers right away and let them know that irregularities in the solar cycle are due to my personal karma. That's gotta be it. On Tue, Sep 17, 2013 at 8:53 AM, Erik Hansen <erikhansen@thebluezone.net>wrote:

You should also contact your PST dealer and ask why he did not mention it.

Are you disappointed in the views you have gotten so far? The last solar max seemed to last a long time, perhaps we have not seen the max activity yet. And yes, the comment was meant to be humorous.
Or I could just have a laugh and let it go.
