The weather out here at SPOC at the moment is really quite nice. But SPOC's Clear Sly Clock does not look all that great for this evening. Still, as with Larry going to watch the clouds at Wheeler last evening, I guess I'll do the same at SPOC this evening. Should anyone care to join in remember there's always food after. :) Cheers, patrick
I saw there would be a hole in the clouds in the late afternoon according to the CSC, clouds are supposed to come back-in in a couple of hours. Looking at the satellite images, there's a back spin to the weather right now with a large cloud system heading our way from the north east. Probably rain in these clouds. -----Original Message----- From: webmaster@slas.us [mailto:webmaster@slas.us] On Behalf Of Patrick Wiggins Sent: Saturday, April 14, 2012 4:00 PM To: utah astronomy listserve utah astronomy Subject: [board] SPOC this evening The weather out here at SPOC at the moment is really quite nice. *Ya think? * Even if no rain, clouds are clouds. Can't your telescope look through the clouds? LOL! (Said with affection for my similarly "afflicted" fellow star-gazers, by now suffering from acute cabin fever.)
I got out earlier for a dog walk the clear patches are short lived and the rain moves in very quickly.
I heard the NWS issued tornado warnings (from this storm) for Nebraska, Okla, Iowa, and Kansas 1-2 days in advance for the 1st time ever. On Sat, Apr 14, 2012 at 4:10 PM, Robert Taylor

Reminds me of an old carton I saw in a magazine about 2 skiers on a double chair. It was snowing so hard, you barely could make out the lift in front of them, and absolutely nothing else. One looks at the other and says, "we'll get above it." Many times I saw that come true on Mt Hood, especially if you were skiing on the glacier. 73, lh

Looks pretty good after midnight... how late are you staying out there? On Sat, Apr 14, 2012 at 4:10 PM, Robert Taylor <robtaylorslc@gmail.com>wrote:

The star party is scheduled to run through 11:00 so unless it really clears off and does that pretty early I doubt anyone will still be there at midnight. patrick Sent from my iPad On Apr 14, 2012, at 16:16, Chrismo <djchrismo@gmail.com> wrote:

It's snowing hard with thunder and lightning in Park City right now. Nancy Sent from my iPad On Apr 14, 2012, at 4:00 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

I'm a glutton for punishment (or perhaps I just like advanced training), so I w/probably show up. 73, lh On 4/14/2012 4:00 PM, Patrick Wiggins wrote:

I just took my first call from the public asking abut tonight. Some guy wanting to bring his family out. Gave him my usual spiel about "weather permitting". But I also spoke with Bruce and he and Roger are going over regardless of weather to work on the Grim with (of course) advanced training after. We're going over about 8. So, sure, come on out. If nothing else we can do a bit of astronomical proselytizing with the public. Cheers, patrick Sent from my iPad On Apr 14, 2012, at 16:37, Larry Holmes <larry@kijoda.com> wrote:

Patrick, I guess I am going to chicken out tonight. I released the operators from their obligation to be there to run the scopes. 73, lh On 4/14/2012 4:00 PM, Patrick Wiggins wrote:

Well, if anyone plans to stay late, like 2 am or later, drop me a line and I'll come out after work! 801 897 9075 On Sat, Apr 14, 2012 at 5:56 PM, Larry Holmes <larry@kijoda.com> wrote:

No worries Larry. You did your "above and beyond" last evening. :) I just fielded another call from the public so I'm going over to speak with those public who don't call first. Actually I've always enjoyed speaking with those that show up on cloudy nights. In part because I feel bad that they went to the trouble of coming out (many think we have some sort of all weather indoor facility like a planetarium). But also because it seems like a perfect teaching moment and a chance to help introduce folks to astronomy. As it happens we're under another big sucker hole at the moment here at Stansbury and there appears to be another approaching from the NW. I don't know if it'll last but if it does I'll open the refractor and give folks a peek at Venus. Clear skies! patrick On 14 Apr 2012, at 17:56, Larry Holmes wrote:
