Kurt posted this over on Jay's forum. Close to ISON and appreciably brighter. Sounds like a better target for imaging at present. http://astronomyinutah.forumer.com/the-comet-other-than-c-2012-s1-ison-t1301...
My favorite comet website is this one. http://www.aerith.net/comet/weekly/current.html I list them all by brightness. Currently Encke is number 1 and ISON is number 4. Watch the "last updated date" because this guy will occasionally take a couple of weeks off but the data often very up to date. DT

Still awful conditions (Moon, haze, partial obstruction by roof and tree) but here are a couple of shots from a few minutes ago of both comets. Same equipment (C-14 @ f/5.5, ST-10 binned 3x3, clear filter) and same exposures (six 5" exposures stacked) for each image. http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/encke_ison_2013oct21.jpg patrick
Looks good. Encke is bright. Still a nice tail on ISON. Moon’s glare looks like you flipped a flashlight on near the scope. Dave On Oct 21, 2013, at 6:34 AM, Wiggins Patrick <paw@getbeehive.net> wrote:

Beautiful photos. Thanks for the details on the equipment and exposures - saves me asking! Why doesn't Encke have much of a tail? Dion On Monday, October 21, 2013 7:16 AM, Wiggins Patrick <paw@getbeehive.net> wrote: On 20 Oct 2013, at 11:55, Chuck Hards wrote:

Not much tail, but a really bright coma. I haven't looked it up, but it usually means viewing geometry. The tail is pointed either towards us, or away from us. And of course it simply might not have one! (Holmes) On Mon, Oct 21, 2013 at 7:53 AM, Dion Davidson <diondavidson@yahoo.com>wrote:
