Bob, I am heading out to Pit n Pole tonight, and it will be an early exit about 12:00a.m. or 1:00a.m. due to clouds coming in. On Fri, Jul 29, 2011 at 9:32 AM, Robert Taylor <robtaylorslc@gmail.com>wrote:

Thanks Jay, the P&P is bit far for me for what is likely to be an abbreviated night of observing. I may run over to the old gravel Quarry if nothing is going on at SPOC. Anyone interested in joining in? Bob, What's the nearest town, so I can check the weather? Also, I saw that Logan promises to be good all night. I wonder if anyone knows of observing sites in that vicinity. There are several places in Logan you can go to and observe. There is one just north of Logan at a State Park that I know that some of the guys in Logan go to. There is also a professor at Utah State that is in with the Cache Valley Stargazers. Here is their site: http://www.cachestargazers.org/ Here is a site they use up Logan Canyon a ways: - *At the intersection of Main and 400 N in Logan, turn EAST (400 N is Highway 89, so you're are taking Highway 89 East).* - *Drive 27.8 miles along this road (up Logan Canyon)* - *Turn LEFT onto UT 243 (signs indicating Beaver Mountain Sky Resort guide you down this road).* - *Drive ~0.7 miles, and take a RIGHT into the gravel parking area.* - *The images below shows the turnoff and the gravel lot at "A". Here is a Google Maps of the site: http://tinyurl.com/3urc3f4* I know this site and it is nice and open, though there are some minor take away from the horizon if your looking to go low into Scorpios or Sagittarius. I may end up going there and spending the night as it looks better than the Pit or Lakeside. On Fri, Jul 29, 2011 at 2:32 PM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

Now I think my problem is that I've had so little sleep today that I can't head north. The High Meadows Observatory is what I usually use for the Park City area on the CSC however it looks like it's heading south for tonight so I may need to re-think the Gravel Quarry. The best skies appear to north and west of Salt Lake tonight or even in Salt Lake. I think I'm going to stay local tonight and find a place in Salt Lake, maybe a dark spot up by the University where these out of town guys are staying can view for a bit. I'm not sure if they'll be able to stay out too late but we'll see.
