Actually M31 can be difficult to get during a marathon if you spend too much time looking for M74. There is another one you can get easily from inside the city, that is M45. There is talk amoung some of the members of OAS of getting together but it will probably be at Golden Spike if it even happens. Most of us are going to Dead Horse Point for our second annual star party down there the first weekend in April. Chuck, If you want to suggest a place there are a couple of people that are interested in a local Messier Marathon. Let me know and I will help communicate to see if they want to join you. Life currently does not allow me to head for the hills for a weekend. I have to be within a short distance of work. I'm basically on-call 24/7. I did my first Marathon over 30 years ago. And Joe: I can see every single M-object from my own back yard in West Valley, Light Pollution Capitol of the World. Why can you only see 3? ;) I do need to find a location with better horizons, however, for the start and finish, and a semi-dark sky is desired for the aesthetic (and to make spotting them a tad easier) I've done this so many times with a telescope that it is no longer that much fun, hence my desire to try it again with large binoculars. Will be my first one done sitting-down! Dave, I'll let you know if I come up with a good local spot. Thanks C. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Sorry, I was just teasing! I know you can spot 'em all. Wish we could all get out to Dead Horse Point. When is that thing? Best, Joe Joe Bauman science & military reporter Deseret News bau@desnews.com (801) 237-2169
