Well, I was going to go out to the Pit tonight but instead I have a group of 8 16-18 year olds coming over to the house to view through my dobs tonight with a couple of adults. I'd go tomorrow but I have class til 7:00 so by the time I load and go that won't work. So on Friday, even if there are some clouds (keyword some) I am going to Lakeside that evening. Forecast looks good at this point for Friday. Saturday is iffy. I'm a little frustrated that now that I am feeling relatively and somewhat healthy I can't get the time to go out. I think tonight will be fun. I'm thinking of showing the following items: Dumbbell Nebula Ring Nebula, Alberio Double, Double (I'll see how low my 14 inch can go splitting the double double at home) SN in M101 Lagoon Nebula, Trifed Nebula M22 Glob Swan Nebula M13 Glob M31 and companions (yes, I can pick up a trace of them at home) Double Cluster NGC 457 There are a few more objects I can show like the Little Dumbbell and come OC's. Any other suggestions since I just threw that list together? Jay -- Jay Eads
Jay, I'm still uncertain if I'll be able to make it Friday or not. I'll contact you off list and let you know. Good observing plan. So how low were you able to go in splitting Epsilon Lyrae? It will be a very interesting comparison between your current mirror and the Zambuto once it arrives. Hi Jay, NGC7331 and its "dear" friends are great from there. Also I enjoyed Stephan's Quintet, which you suggested earlier. And the Cat's Eye Nebula, though I was surprised that it was so small. M81 blew me away last night, just a terrific view from Lakeside and I may have had some good photon-gathering with it (don't want to squawk about it until I finish processing but it looks good). Finally, I loved NGC7217 from there but need to work on my processing and make a better pic of it. Hope you're feeling better. ALSO: beware of the fierce dust -- we don't it getting you down. Next time I think I'll continue on the dirt road up into the foothills beyond in hopes of finding a site with less dust. Another thing, there was a freshly-hit antelope or deer on the paved road back from I-80 this morning. Watch out for them. -- Joe ________________________________ From: Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 28, 2011 5:08 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Observing Plans Well, I was going to go out to the Pit tonight but instead I have a group of 8 16-18 year olds coming over to the house to view through my dobs tonight with a couple of adults.
