Shuttle this morning, SLAS tonight
SLAS meeting tonight. Sorry but I don't know the topic. Better still, NASA TV reports that all is still a "go" for today's launch. 8:39 is awfully early for me to be getting up but I really want to see that sucker go! Chuck, Guy, Kurt, how many match heads to launch the shuttle? :-) Patrick

And how much fuse to get away?

:) This one is easy. You pour a little gas on and around the end of the fuse, place the end of the fuse against a 10" chunk of magnesium, and then from a relatively safe distance of say, 1000 yards, you place your right index finger on the trigger, and fire the special steel tipped bullet into the chunk of magnesium, and then with your left hand, wave goodbye... ;)
Anybody heard from Ziggy? He didn't respond to my latest email to him about a week ago. --- Patrick Wiggins <paw@trilobyte.net> wrote:

Hi friends, I am looking for a couple of quotes from Utahns who are interested in the Return to Flight -- anyone who saw the launch on TV or computer and wants to give me a couple of lines of their impressions, please either write to me at bau@desnews.com or call me at 237-2169. I think I can use two or three quotes. But if you're going to call, wait a bit as I'm going to the post office and lunch. Many thanks, Joe (who wishes he had been able to go back to Florida!)
Spectacular launch, a lot of fun with all the extra cameras on board this time. I nearly missed it, heading off to work. Glad I had the radio on, and promptly turned the car around to make it back in the house at T-minus-10 seconds! Very cool. As to SLAS, I'd like to recommend a committee (the existing board perhaps?) that oversees speakers, so it's not the job of the president (alone) to assign speakers or to know exclusively what's on the program. Assuming I don't show tonight, would someone in SLAS please bring this up for discussion tonight? -Rich --- Patrick Wiggins <paw@trilobyte.net> wrote:

Starting my work day at 6 am has it's advantages...I and my staff watched the launch in my office, over OJ and my instant oatmeal. I plugged-in some amplified computer speakers and the sound was terrific as well. I agree, Rich, I loved the "extra" camera angles, especially the separation from the main tank. Hard to tell for sure, but the bottom of the shuttle and the wing leading edges looked unscathed to me. Spectacular, well-done; crew and support personnel! --- Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote:

If he didn't oversee speakers, or, know what was on the program, what would there be for the president to do? ;) As it stands now, there is input from within the membership, providing recommendations for certain speakers. Occasionally those who recommend, will themselves volunteer to make contact with the speaker, and by coordinating this with the president, arrange it. But, as is sometimes the case, speakers don't show, and so we may be left to entertain ourselves. What we need then would be an entertainment committee. Someone who can jump in at the last moment, with either an accordion or bazooka, and make it all better. ;) And no, I don't know what's on the agenda for tonight, but it could be entertaining... ;) Seriously though, I will bring it up at tonights board meeting. Guy, if you're playing an accordian, I'll be there with my camera! Will you favor the membership with a salty sea-chanty or two? --- diveboss@xmission.com wrote:
