2003 UV11 tonight (Friday)
Provided the clouds cooperate we've a chance to see a tiny minor planet whiz past Earth tonight (Friday) and into tomorrow morning. Transiting high in the south about 8 pm and shining at about mag 12 it'll be scooting across the sky at about 160 arc seconds per minute and located only 0.013 AU away (just under 2 million km). For specifics for your area go to the Minor Planet Ephemeris Service at: http://www.minorplanetcenter.org/iau/MPEph/MPEph.html patrick
Clouds are cooperating, Patrick -- will you shoot it? Thanks, Joe --- On Fri, 10/29/10, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Figures... I gave up on an early shot and came here to denny's for dinner. After reading your message I went outside and saw Jupiter so perhaps the clouds are thinning. I'll head home in a few minutes and give it a go. Clear skies, (please), patrick
Joe, Still pretty cloudy but the cloud deck is thin enough I'm able to image through it so I'm working it now. Should have something to post later tonight (hopefully within a couple hours if all continues to go well). patrick On 29 Oct 2010, at 21:06, Patrick wrote:

Hi all, The first one is posted. As you'll see this one was shot at sidereal rate so the target moves though the filed. I'm working on a second one that follows the target. http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=68&g2_page=6 The first time through might run a bit slow, especially if on a slow connection (the file's about 2 MB). But once it's in the cache or once you download it it should display at a rate of one frame per .2 second. patrick On 29 Oct 2010, at 22:10, Patrick Wiggins wrote:

Second one is posted, this one tracking the target. http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=68&g2_page=6 I'm glad Joe emailed me earlier tonight. It never did clear completely but I arrived back home under a cloud deck thin enough to shoot this kind of stuff through. No sooner did I finish than the clouds thickened and the show was over. Caillech (Goddess of weather, Earth, sky, seasons, Moon and Sun) must have been in a good mood tonight. Thanks Caillech. patrick
Thanks, Patrick -- I'll do my blog tomorrow, just in time for Halloween. Best always, Joe --- On Fri, 10/29/10, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:
