Some folks have expressed an interest in having another Binopalooza. If we do, when is best? The local "brick and mortar" clubs have just about every "dark" weekend booked for something, so we may have to ask people to make a choice, though I am loathe to do this. Comments? Thanks C. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance Tax Center - File online. File on time. http://taxes.yahoo.com/filing.html
Chuck, I had so much fun at the last one I'd do another in a heartbeat. And this doesn't have to be an exclusive event; we can combine it with any (willing) dark-sky group whichever night we choose. Jethro Tull goes down just as well if the photons are coming through a telescope or binoculars! ;o) YOU my friend are the kicker -- you seem to have the most trouble finding time away from home/work. So we'll work with your schedule. That said, I can't do it May 21st (Friday), as I have a family reunion that weekend, but May 22-Saturday would be a possibility. Otherwise any good weekend this spring/summer I'm up for. Rich --- Chuck Hards <chuckhards@yahoo.com> wrote:

Chuck, Rich, others- I'm up for it too! The first one was so much fun, how can't we have another? I'm pretty much wide open myself; I would like to catch a glimpse of the upcoming comet(s). I think only one of them is actually going to make a northerly appearance. The west desert site is a good one; the gravel pit is usually a good call too. The Wedge Overlook? So many choices, but plenty of time and band width for discussion... Joe Borgione Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote: Chuck, I had so much fun at the last one I'd do another in a heartbeat. I'm not sure which is the most popular aspect, the binocular astronomy or the music! ;) Do you guys remember the perfectly choreographed Pink Floyd moonset? Etched in my mind. It drew APPLAUSE! But seriously, we can't just piggyback on someone else's star party. Music is strictly forbidden under the rules of Star Party Ettiquette, unless you happen to be the organizer and make it known at the outset that there will be a bunch of 40-something folks attending with their favorite CD's from the '70's. I'll take a hard look at a calendar and see if anything suggests itself. Thanks! C. (PS: First time my daughter saw one of my vinyl LP's, and a pair of old full-size headphones with 1/4" jack, her eyes got wide and she said: "The Discman's must have been HUGE!") __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Chuck I have an 800 watt inverter and my daughters CD player you could use for the occasion. The comment about the 800 watt inverter leads me to ask: Is it safe and practical to operate computer peripherals (printers, CD burners, etc) from inverters? I am thinking in terms of being used in conjunction with a laptop in remote locations. Bob, I recently used my inverter with my laptop and LPI imager at the Wedge nearly all night. It worked wonderfully and did not run down my battery. That's just my experience. (I think the telescope should run off a battery, however.) -- Best wishes, Joe
