Hi All, I think there are a few more misconceptions of the expanding universe. Superclusters of Galaxies also seem to have unique motions within their systems as well. As mentioned, this is why the Andromeda Galaxy is racing towards us, it is affected by something else than the force that is believed to have caused expansion (big bang). There seem to be unknown forces that act against forces causing expansion. Is our Sun expanding? Not currently, and when it does it will because it is exhausting its fuel. That every motion is towards expansion is a misconception. Yes, new postulates (expanding earth is a postulate not a theory) are often meet with more than skepticism until they are paired with good observation. When the postulates have been confirmed by many observations and people they become theories. I think theories and postulates are often confused, theories are challenged by postulates. Erik
I guess I really should let this thread die out so as not to be accused of beating a dead horse, but something came up that made it just too difficult to resist. During the heat of the debate Steve mentioned a book "A Short History of the Universe" by Joseph Silk. I remember having read it but was unable to find a copy in my book stack. Then I remembered. I sold my copy during a swap meet in the the basement of a Lutheran church back in about 2004. And the person I distinctly remember selling it to was................Bob Taylor. So Bob I second Steve's recomendation that you read this book since I know you actually have a copy. But watch out. It's "main stream science" and you know how tricky those guys can be. DT
I am going to whack the horse one more time, it is dead so it won't hurt. Accuse me all you want,
My understanding it that the accepted observation is that galaxies aren't expanding into space, they stay in the shape God assigned them. Is this not the dark matter paradox? IE galaxies must have unobserved mass since their stars are not flying of on their own, or "expanding" into space. I would like to Rodger chime in on this, I thought the Expanding Earth idea threw out a lot pretty solid geology. I do wonder if he is aware that California is being ripped apart by the SA Fault. Is not that the Pacific and North American plates moving in opposite directions? Continental plates do move, he must not live in a earthquake zone. I guess I really should let this thread die out so as not to be accused of
