Film of Earth at Night by ISS
If you haven't seen the recently released film by NASA of astronauts on the ISS filming Earth at night as the ISS flies over, check it out at http://vimeo.com/michaelkoenig/earth-timelapse-iss -- Jay Eads
VERY IMPRESSIVE. The aurora and lighting strikes in the clouds were wonderful. We live on a very active, exciting planet. At about 3:48 there was a land mass that was outlined in red. I checked the list of views and couldn't figure out what is was. Any ideas? Maybe the IDA should use a copy of this on their web-site. Talk about light pollution, every continent, even africa is well represented. Thanks for posting. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jay Eads" <jayleads@gmail.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, November 14, 2011 2:38:27 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Film of Earth at Night by ISS If you haven't seen the recently released film by NASA of astronauts on the ISS filming Earth at night as the ISS flies over, check it out at http://vimeo.com/michaelkoenig/earth-timelapse-iss -- Jay Eads _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php
A little searching turned up this article showing the red line is the well lit India-Pakistan border. I didn't know about that. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/06/india-pakistan-border-iss_n_951002.... Ian On Mon, Nov 14, 2011 at 10:31 AM, <jcarman6@q.com> wrote:

Hey all, What time are SLAS meetings held these days? 7:30pm still? It doesn't state a time on the calendar as far as I can see. How are people parking without a permit? Thanks, Dave Bennett
Correct Dave! 7:30 PM Start time. Have you been to the new venue?

Dave, The meeting is at 7:30 PM. Parking isn't the best. You can sometimes find parking just south of the building we meet in and after 6:00 PM it is open to all. If this is filled, you have to park in the lot to the east of Rice Eccles stadium and walk across the street to the building. Thank you Roger & Steve for the info. I haven't been to the new location but from the posted youtube video (and the aerial photo) it looks easy enough to find. Dave B. Dave: Sorry for the delay and it looks like Rodger has answered the second half of your question but should want to look here is a video I shot and put on Youtube. This is obviously on Fifth South and not Fourth South as I said in the video. As Rodger said if you are unable to find parking here you can park in the lot directly South of this one but you will need to be going East on the road going past the stadium. Hope we haven't confused you but there is plenty of free parking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9vM4ly_D90 > To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com
