Y'all are the only folks I regularly keep in touch with, so I hope you don't mind if I share a thought or two unrelated to astronomy. I've been listening to some old tunes today. I set my iPod to "shuffle" and lo, Cat Stevens' "Peace Train" came on just as I was thinking about the war in Iraq and Mr. Bush's visit to Utah. I just hope peace can indeed be restored - sooner, rather than later. Another thing: It's such a nice day here in paradise, that I wanted someone else to know besides me. The world is still a beautiful place. It isn't entirely screwed, yet. (Sorry about the language.) OK - I'll conclude with an astronomy-related thought: The universe is a grand thing of which to be a part, no? Kim
It is a beautiful day isn't it? I had to take a break from work and just walk around a bit. Wow, my weatherbug says it's 71 at the SLC Airport. Sweeet! I hope for peace, too. I had to drive through the crowds this morning to get to work at the capitol. Personally, I'd rather listen to Rocky Anderson than Bush. =P And I hope for peace daily. I wish I lived in Paradise... maybe someday. But for now, it's the city life. ;) Fortunately it's not a real big city. Cynthia Kim wrote:

Thanks , Cynthia. About 1959 my grandparents purchased a small cabin in Big Cottonwood Canyon. They bought a small wood sign to hang in the cabin that says, "A Little Bit of Heaven." They've been gone for nearly 25 years, but the cabin and sign are still there. Paradise is where you make it. My grandparents knew that, I think. I'm just beginning to figure it out. It helps to be in a nice environment, though. Been too smoky the past couple of days for much astronomy. I'll be in Yellowstone NP (a different kind of paradise) over the weekend and I hope for clear skies there. Kim, My sister-in-law is determined to buy a house in Spring City (that's close, isn't it?), so I may make the excuse to come down for a little star gazing once in a while and visit y'all in paradise. I always did like Cat Stevens. If only we could all ride the peace train to work each day -- you know, like those people-mover cars at Disneyland, sans the long lines of course... ;o) --- Kim <kimharch@cut.net> wrote:

Spring City is about 5 miles south of us. Great town for historic architecture. Alas, I'll be moving from my current residence, where the sky is very dark, to our pioneer house "in town" in a few weeks. The light pollution from US89 obscures the sky a bit from our house in town. So, we may have to rendezvous somewhere nearby. I've been scouting for new places - should be able to find something within five or ten minutes of my home. (Eat your heart out.) ;-) Kim -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces+kimharch=cut.net@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces+kimharch=cut.net@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Richard Tenney Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2006 2:50 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Warning! You know, Kim, these are the most depressing times I've lived through since the Vietnam War. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree fully that it's time the world had peace. Best wishes, Joe
