I got 6 "quick and dirty" 1 minute exposures. All washed out the way them came out of the camera (the comet is bright) and since I guided on the comet (which is moving quickly) the background stars are trailed. Should anyone care to try and salvage something from the FIT files you'll find them at: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/LULIN2009FEB21.zip patrick
Here are more, this time deeper (2' @ 3x3 instead of 1' @ 2x2) and including color. http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/LULIN2009FEB21C.ZIP Contains 5 clear, 2 red, 2 green, 3 blue, a master flat for each color and a master dark for all. As before I tracked the comet so the stars are trailed. Honestly, I'm not sure how one goes about combining all the colors for a moving target. But some how I've got a feeling Tyler knows. :) Carpe Noctem, patrick On 21 Feb 2009, at 02:42, Patrick Wiggins wrote:

Here's my effort to assemble the pic from the color set. jb http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=1123 --- On Sat, 2/21/09, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote: From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Lulin FIT files (color) To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Saturday, February 21, 2009, 5:25 AM Here are more, this time deeper (2' @ 3x3 instead of 1' @ 2x2) and including color. http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/LULIN2009FEB21C.ZIP Contains 5 clear, 2 red, 2 green, 3 blue, a master flat for each color and a master dark for all. Very nice Joe, Looks like you were paying attention during Tyler's talk. :) Your picture shows Lulin has an even larger coma than I thought. This is one case where a camera taking all the LRGB at once is helpful (gets rid of the red, green and blue streaked stars. On 21 Feb 2009, at 13:11 , Joe Bauman wrote:

It's really a great, scary photo, Patrick. It makes me shudder when I think of something like that hitting our little planet. -- Joe --- On Sat, 2/21/09, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote: From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Lulin FIT files (color) To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Saturday, February 21, 2009, 5:57 PM Very nice Joe, Looks like you were paying attention during Tyler's talk. :) Your picture shows Lulin has an even larger coma than I thought. Patrick, Thanks for letting us have a try at your data. One of these days I might actually collect some data of my own. Until then, Thanks for letting me see what good data looks like; although Tyler may want to put a different spin on it...lol. http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=1126 Jim
