Steve and Mike have again graciously extended an invitation to view through the 70-inch telescope this Saturday, Nov. 9th, and Sunday, Nov. 10th. There are 20 openings only each night. The first 20 for each night to reply to me will be given a slot. Please only reserve one night to make room for others. Off-list would be best. Families are welcome but each member of the family counts as one slot. Please carpool if possible. I will send directions and the code to open the gate to those who respond in time to secure a reservation. If any SLAS officers are reading this, feel free to send a SLAS blast and give my email address as the proper RSVP address. chuck.hards@gmail.com I will send out another message when all slots are filled. Start time will be 6:00 PM until Steve and Mike decide it's time to close up for the night. Dress warmly. Good luck!
Chuck Just wanted to say thanks for arranging that visit to the 70" telescope. Truly breathtaking in person. Between groups I got to spend about 30 minutes with Mike hearing about the telescope, its past and future. The individual craters on the moon were amazing, and the ring nebula was huge! I'm glad I stuck around until the sky cleared a bit. Thanks, nice photos, Dion. I wonder if anyone has held a camera to the eyepiece and taken a shot. -- Joe On Saturday, November 9, 2013 10:47 PM, Dion Davidson <diondavidson@yahoo.com> wrote: Chuck Just wanted to say thanks for arranging that visit to the 70" telescope. Dion, it was all Mike and Steve's generosity, I was just spreading the word. Glad you had a good time! My wife had to get up very early this morning so we took off when the cloud cover took over, couldn't wait it out. Mike will be doing this semi-regulary through the winter, as he continues to refine the telescope. On Sat, Nov 9, 2013 at 10:45 PM, Dion Davidson <diondavidson@yahoo.com>wrote:

Carol & I got a chance to attend last night. The skies were getting better as we left somewhere on the downside of 9p. I have to agree with Dion, the views of the moon were just amazing. It astounded me, that while 4 or 5 steps up on the ladder, I was able to move the scope to keep the ring in sight. Using averted imagination, the central star was visible, though others claimed to see it. The ring was so large, it reminded me of my telescope when I defocus during alignment. Thanks for the opportunity. Also, those of you who missed L & O. , missed a chance to listen to Mike expound on the problems of design, etc. 73 -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] 70-inch viewing sessions this weekend Date: Sat, 9 Nov 2013 21:45:21 -0800 (PST) From: Dion Davidson <diondavidson@yahoo.com> Reply-To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Chuck Just wanted to say thanks for arranging that visit to the 70" telescope.
