Now everyone keep an open mind on this. My friend and I commented before 2nd contact that it seemed liked we were seeing streaks from the sun that looked like coronal streaks. My 1st thought was this is not possible, it must be artifact from the glasses. The problem remains that the streaks looked exactly like the corona. Anyone else note this? Erik
Nope, didn't see anything like that but there did seem to be a good deal of smoke in the air. I forgot to mention that Venus was prominent during annularity, but I didn't see it afterward, even immediately after sunset. On another note... One problem with electronic/social media is that you don't see the expression on one's face or other visual cues about the meaning of speech. I have always only been teasing about the choices that others made to observe the eclipse, and I was always smiling when I tried to joke about it. Sorry if I offended anyone - didn't mean to. Staying at Bryce was the only sensible thing for me to do and I'm glad I was here. I think Brent was trying to say the being with friends and family were the highlight of his experience, and I would certainly agree with that. I would have enjoyed being with old friends but spending time with new friends was also fine. Here are links to some photos I took at Beryl Junction. There were a total of 9 of us within a quarter of a mile. There was maybe one car every mile pulled off the highway. These photos are not the quality I was hoping for. I'll work on it for the next round. Middle of the eclipse: http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n534/brentjwatson/Solar%20Eclipse/DSC_56... I like this one better. Just about 3rd contact: http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n534/brentjwatson/Solar%20Eclipse/DSC_56... I think the event was so low toward the horizon by full annuarity that a lot of us got fuzzy pics, just from all the atmosphere in the way. Nice shots, Brent. -- Joe ________________________________ From: Brent Watson <brentjwatson@yahoo.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, May 21, 2012 4:35 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] 2 photos from Beryl Junction Here are links to some photos I took at Beryl Junction. That's odd. I guess K-ville really did suck everyone in. I spoke to one of the city officials after and he said cars were backed up bumper to bumper on the entire 9 miles of frontage road between both K-ville exits as well as on the road from I-15 to New Harmony. He said the highway patrol had 8 troopers assigned to the stretch of I-15 K-ville who's main job was to keep motorist from pulling over during the eclipse. It's too bad one of the news or law enforcement choppers wasn't over the area during the eclipse taking pictures. I would have liked to have seen the view from the air.
