This morning I managed to spot Antares low in the east. The sun is moving eastward through the summer zodiac. Meteorologically, winter is half over- even though astronomically it's still got a tad over 2 months to go. It's effectively over when I take the Mazda out on the road for the first time around March 1st - a much more exciting event that the equinox! Anybody in SLAS still interested in doing the car show this year? I still like the idea of doing it as SPOC in conjunction with a sun-party, or late in the day leading into a star-party. If not as a fundraiser, maybe as a "meet and greet" for new members, as part of the Inreach effort. Possible BBQ? SPOC training event? Help me out here and toss-out some ideas. Can you tell that I've got spring and summer on my mind, and am officially sick of winter? ;o) BTW, if anybody was watching FOX 13 this morning, my daughter was on TV. She is the lead singer in her high-school band "The Willie Hendrix Experience". They got to do a brief stint playing Black Sabbath's classic hit "Iron Man" on FOX's "school of the week" morning segment. Rock On!
I am well and truly sick of winter and any spring-like event to look forward to sounds great. We have no sports cars, years ago my folks had a Ford Galaxy 500 and now we have a Subaru, so we have stayed in an astronomical theme, at least. How about a "starcar barbeque" in conjunction with a solar party? We could look for sun spots and cars that deserve their spot in the sun. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Chuck Hards Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2008 12:37 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Wednesday ramblings This morning I managed to spot Antares low in the east. I had a Ford Galaxy 500, as well as an ancient Falcon, back in the '60s. I shudder at the memory of both 'em. ... Joe On Jan 16, 2008, at 4:33 PM, Ann Blanchard wrote:

Me. And I like Ann's suggestion of calling it the "Starcar Barbeque". :) I brought it up at last week's SLAS board meeting. They'd like more details. Perhaps you could be at the next meeting?

Fundraiser doesn't do much for me but typically SLAS has a pre-star party meal at SPOC at least once a year.

Maybe this will help: 808.248.8471 Just shows it's not cold everywhere (this is where Rob can chime in). As long as you are rambling, Chuck, I'll add a couple things: Now THAT'S a GoTo: http://tinyurl.com/2kqbje Looking for a star catalogue cross reference? Here's one that found 53 designations for Sirius (aka SAO 151881, USNO 816, HIP 32349...): http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad patrick

Perhaps. Heck, I don't know what I'll be doing *tomorrow* afternoon. When is it? I'm making a laser pointer finder for the 32" at Bruce's request so I have to connect sooner or later.
Wednesday the 13th. 7:00 p.m. at the Denny's at 250 W 500 S in SLC. BTW, in case you have not heard Bob Moore said if the concours does happen he could bring a Model A and Model T (Bob, did I get those models right?). I had no idea Bob was a car collector. So so far we have your Mazda, Ann's Porche, my antique Benz, Boyd's Sunbeam and Bob's A & T. So it could happen. patrick On 17 Jan 2008, at 10:41, Chuck Hards wrote:

Somebody in the club also said they had a fairly new Benz SL-series roadster, but I can't recall who it was at the moment, and one of the guys at the swap-meet had that Mitsubishi turbo- hopefully we can get more. On Jan 17, 2008 5:28 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

I could show off my 1984 Jeep Cherokee, missing only the J on the hood (so it's actually a rare EEP). As an added attraction, it has slotches of color that doesn't match its blue, put on to cover up the bright red primer that Patrick kindly gave me ....

I was brushing my teeth when I read that and when I got to "a rare EEP" I laughed so hard I spit toothpaste all over. LOL patrick :)
He nailed the J to his parking space at the DesNews... Don't forget to pick that up when you hang-up your press card for good, Joe...come to think of it, is there a journalistic equivalent of leaving your shoes at the edge of the matt? Nope, the J for Jeep is gone and the J for journalism will be gone from my life! I hope! Despite someone soliciting me to string for a national magazine, I want to get on with my book-writing. Thanks, JB On Jan 17, 2008, at 10:28 PM, Chuck Hards wrote:

Yes, that was me. I won't be back in SLC until late April, but I'd love to participate after then. ('06 SLK 350.) That's a car worth waiting for. If we do this, let's make it later in the spring or after. On Jan 18, 2008 12:03 PM, Barney B. <aaah@sisna.com> wrote:
