Testing the 10 inch Zambuto Mirror
I am testing the 10 inch Zambuto Mirror at my home tonight so if after someone is done with stuff tonight, feel free to call me at eight zero one, six three four, six zero seven six. I'll be out back til around midnight or so. Tomorrow night I am still taking it to Pit n Pole if anyone wants to meet me out there. If you come, you are welcome to use the scope, observe with it and give your impressions compared to other mirrors and scopes which is what Carl wants. The more the merrier. We'll also be pushing the mirror on galaxies on the verge of seeing (even with the moon) to look at contrast the mirror gives. I'll have my 14 set up and if I am lucky, perhaps another scope. If you want to bring yours to compare on the same object, that would be great. -- Jay Eads
Just a question about Pit n Pole, is the road out there paved or gravel? I'd like to ride my Harley out, but big touring bikes don't do well in the offroad world. :( Thanks, -Barrett & Roxanne -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jay Eads Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2011 7:03 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Testing the 10 inch Zambuto Mirror I am testing the 10 inch Zambuto Mirror at my home tonight so if after someone is done with stuff tonight, feel free to call me at eight zero one, six three four, six zero seven six. It is paved until you turn at PonyExress marker 3. From there the road is dirt gravel and the road you turn right on hasrutsfrom trucks being out there. I wouldn't recommend the bike on that road. I'll be out there around 7:00pm on Friday. Sent from my iPad On May 12, 2011, at 7:31 PM, "Barrett" <BarrettWF@comcast.net> wrote:

Just to clarify, the first road you turn on, the dirt/gravel, is fairly smooth. Where you turn right isn't good, but you might be able to steer around the ruts. Both are short -- 1/4 to 1/2 mile. From Patrick's aerial photo it looked like there might be a shortcut you could take on a bike though. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jay Eads Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2011 7:40 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Testing the 10 inch Zambuto Mirror It is paved until you turn at PonyExress marker 3. I don't know where the Pit n Pole is, so I'll have to do a bit of research in the morning and see what I can come up with. Sounds like fun and we are interested in coming out. Barrett, Here is a link to my blog that has the directions with photos: http://jaysastronomyobservingblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/pit-n-pole-directions... There are directions under the Star Party tab on the SLAS web site as well with a map. So far it is you and my friend Mat who was at my house last night. If you would prefer we can do the backyard again, but I'm good either way. The Pit just has no ambient light around but the moon is impacting views. The mirror was wonderful and I cannot get into details yet, but when I do my full right up I'll be discussing the night in full. Phenomenal contrast. Anyone else planning to come out?
