Hey, Patrick, How did it go? I told Cory I wanted to listen to it, then lay down for a bit because I was tired and depressed. Next thing I knew it was 10 p.m. and I'd missed it. Very fine, Patrick! I heard the relpay just now via Internet -- all of it but about the last 20 minutes when my laptop power went fittz! -- I need to get it recharged; meanwhile, I'm using the clunky old desktop. Anyway, I didn't think you got political, and I thought the perspective was interesting and well-articulated. -- Best wishes, Joe ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Fri, February 5, 2010 10:55:25 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] KSL on NASA tonight (Friday) Thanks Steve, It was fun but I was uncomfortable talking about NASA policy and the politics involved (which is why the hosts did most of the talking about that). I missed it. The usual seems when fed funding is taken from one state and given to another, it becomes a bad move from the losing states prespective. I remember Orin complaining the federal dollars don't create jobs, I suppose a state senator making that comment should not complain when those dollars leave his state. I doubt it had much to do with politics, other that internal NASA politics. I am sure there would have been complaints if Obama increased NASA funding enough to keep the moon mission alive. I have talked to many political conservatives that would eliminate NASA completely.
The impression I got was that moon missions are on hold (not really cancelled) until further study can be done. Seems like the Constellation program might have been too much too soon. Erik Thanks Steve,
