Re: [Utah-astronomy] Saturday or Sunday Night Pit n Pole
My drive to lakeside is ~2 hours, but only about 1 hour to the pit, I think Jay’s are similar, a bit shorter in scale but close on comparison if put side to side, its just a matter of where you live exactly I guess On 2011-07-22 04:11, Chrismo wrote:

Is this flapjack feast / star party a public event? I ask because our friends Aaron and Tanja London, who I haven't yet convinced to join the club, might like to go. If not, that's OK because we haven't mentioned it to them. Rodgers idea all together. He hit me up about it close to a week ago. I told him I would buy the pancake batter (I have). We just thought instead of going over to Denny's we would whip up a pail of batter and have some hotcakes with friends. Being a club member has never been a prerequisite to attending "advanced training" and I see no reason why we would prevent anyone attending from sharing with us. Still, once you have eaten the clubs pancakes you may feel more inclined to join but we won't even mention it. Right?

Well if it is for real, shouldn't a SLASBlast go out to SLAS members advising those who wish to partake to bring plates and utensils (nothing disposable, please)? SLAS supplying butter, blueberries, chocolate chips and syrup or should we bring our own? Someone pointed out that there is wild hemlock growing out there. I guess we could mix that in and rename the place Jonestown. :) Just too bad the maryjane I tried growing out there years ago never took hold... patrick
so, neither an AARP nor a temple recommend are required? LOL On Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 12:28 AM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com>wrote:

Patrick: You missed it. The AARP crack was for you. Nothing to do with age actually Joe. Patrick knows. I'm not sure what Rodger has in mind for plates or utiinsils but no one need bring anything. That is the way is is to be.It is just BYOs Bring your own self. Hope to see you all.

Just too bad the maryjane I tried growing out there years ago never took hold...

Thanks Rodger. I don't starve and actually we have done very well at adapting many receipes to be gluten free, my wife is an excellent cook and we had about 10 sessions with a dietician when I was diagnosed that helped. I was diagnose 3 years ago and am extremely sensitive and based on the balloon endoscopy and a pill cam (the pill with a camera in it that takes pictures as it travels through the digestive process) showed my villa were extremely damaged. Anyway, I've made adjustments and actually my wife had an outstanding pancake recipe and they are delicious but its not just the components, its the cooking ware itself (we had to get all new pots and pans etc). They think I've had it for over 20 years since I was diagnosed in the late 1980's with "Irritable Bowl" since they couldn't find a cause for all my issues back then. I will make it out to some SPOC star parties just not the next two weeks as I enjoy that new moon phase out in the boon docks. It's also why I bring my own food or if I go to advance training why I don't eat. Glad your son grew out of it. Having both celiac and diabetes would be very hard.

Hi friends, We hope everyone has a great time at SPOC tonight. Unfortunately, Cory and I can't go. I'm the grip of a temporary stomach ailment -- 'nuff said. Thanks, Joe

Jay, Sorry to hear that you have celiac spru. My 31-year old son had celiac from the time he was 2 years old. When he was a teenager, I noticed that he was fudging on his diet and seemed to be getting away with it. I took him to his gastronologist and she said perhaps he had grown out of it (5% do). He went on an unlimited diet and has been fine ever since. I have a good friend that is type-1 diabetic and then was diagnosed with celiac. He about starves.
Thanks Rodger Fry

Yep, not interested in pancakes . . . they'd make me real sick anyway with my celiac disease.

No, I heard Rodger say he would do it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it like a flapjack stuck to the pan. ________________________________ From: Jorge Gutierrez <gotfoxx@hotmail.com> To: Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, July 22, 2011 12:06 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Rodger's flapjacks (was something about Pit Heh, to me it sounded like Patrick was kidding, but a little bit of peer pressure might make it happen :P On 2011-07-22 05:58, Joe Bauman wrote:

Stop by SPOC on your way home. Rodger says he's going to be serving up flapjacks. :)

Jorge, I spoke with Rodger yesterday and he assured me he will be serving pancakes at SPOC tonight. Be sure and bring a plate and utensils (that way we get to be green and the trash cans wont be full when we leave). Joe, Is Tanja the German lady who was doing the filming at the SLAS meeting? If so, tell her I'll be bringing to SPOC the car her father helped design. :) All, It's been an incredible night and SPOC's Clear Sky Clock indicates it's going to stay that way right through tonight's star party. See y'all there! patrick On 22 Jul 2011, at 00:06, Jorge Gutierrez wrote:

Hi Patrick, Tanja is indeed the German native who did the filming. But she and her husband can't go tonight. She'll be finishing some film projects while Aaron has plans to catch Harry Potter with a friend. -- Best wishes, Joe ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, July 23, 2011 5:04 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Rodger's flapjacks (was something about Pit Jorge, I spoke with Rodger yesterday and he assured me he will be serving pancakes at SPOC tonight.
