Re: [Utah-astronomy] LED suggestions
Rich, I use: http://todd-robinson.amazonwebstore.com/Coast-LED-Lenser-LL7536RHL-Dual-Colo... It is a head lamp with both white and red Leds. Actually only 1 red led on a separate on/off button. I use it mainly for setting up and taking down of equipment. For map reading I sometimes use: http://flashlightsunlimited.com/rigel.htm Flashlight. It is adjustable. I've been using a red LED headlamp (too bright - not adjustable) and adjustable red LED flashlight (I'm getting tired of carrying it around in my mouth) for looking at charts. So, I'm considering a finger LED or something I can clip on. Do any of you have suggestions of what to get? I'm hoping that if I get something ordered quickly that I can still get it in time for the Messier Marathon.
Thanks and clear skies, Dale.

I appreciate the suggestions - I think that dimming the headlamp sounds like a good idea. I also have one of the Rigel systems (with two red LED's) - they are very nice. But, I do wonder if there is something like it (i.e. adjustable) that you can clip on. Maybe I should duct tape it to my hat. Jim, my Coast Lenser just arrived, and I must thank you for the recommedation. This headlamp-style LED is just the ticket. I especially like the tilting ability of the light source itself. Good call. I also have another style red-light headband on the way, as well as a dual color red/white LED flashlight in transit. I'll review them all once they arrive. I was using various cheap flashlights, camping lights, and a Maglight conversion, but these new products with red light by design are much, much better.
