The problem is that either the paint itself was improperly mixed or contaminated, or the tube interior was contaminated before paint application. This holds true for powder-coating as well as traditional sprayed-on paint. If this scope is only 18 months old, Meade should have no qualms about repairing it. Even if out-of-warranty, this condition could cause damage to the Meade reputation if made public. I would think Mr. Diebel values his company's reputation more than a paint-job. Especially on a telescope that costs more than my car. I seriously doubt that Mr. Gubler will find a qualified local shop willing to take the risk without having him sign a waiver, removing the shop from any responsibility if further damage is incurred, or the condition cannot be rectified. The main problem is the paint on the inside of the tube of his 18 month old scope is peeling off in large sheets. Some of it has been sticking to the mirror.

He'd like some advice on recoating the inside of the tube and cleaning the mirror.
