A friend of mine and fellow geologist has been undertaking the spectral analysis of stars for many years. He has managed to get a spectral image of the super nova in M-82. This shows the chemical signature of the elements in the SN. Here is a link to his work: https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/t1/s403x403/1654422_6460876 65429200_1028007911_n.jpg Thanks Rodger C. Fry
Rodger Super cool! Thanks for posting. I had to struggle with the URL a bit. Roger, thanks for the post. Dion, thanks for the enhanced fix. That’s pretty cool. Makes me want to try some spectra. Dave On Feb 1, 2014, at 15:44, Dion Davidson <diondavidson@yahoo.com> wrote:

Yes, a much easier URL to work with. Dion, how did you shrink the URL? Rodger you ought to suggest your friend submit it to one of the PODs. Regarding spectra, IIRC Jerry Foote built a spectrograph a while back. Jerry do you have any spectra to show? patrick On 01 Feb 2014, at 16:16, Dave Gary <davegary@me.com> wrote:

So for us poor layfolk who still don't even use metric, could someone explain what the spectra indicate? Does it tell what sort of star blew?
