KSL just rang saying they have reports of 3 white spots near the Sun. Anyone here seeing them? patrick
No. It's a little bright. I'll wait until it gets dark. Dan -- Daniel Holmes, danielh@holmesonics.com "Laugh while you can, monkey boy!" -- Lord John Whorfin

Just an early sign of sun-caused eye damage, I'd wager. Don't check to find out if it's true. Nothing but blue sky around the sun from West Valley. Using 15x70mm binocular with Baader filters as well. Nice big sunspot, however. On Thursday, October 2, 2014, Wiggins Patrick <paw@getbeehive.net> wrote:

The air is full of tiny particles today. I've just watched dozens of them, highly reflective and easily visible when close to my line of sight with the sun. They are either windborne seeds or insects. On Thursday, October 2, 2014, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

Better home security cam videos are appearing, consistent with a decently bright fireball that's definitely _not_ above Salt Lake County. Steep angle, short duration. Assuming that people are accurate when they say their cameras are facing "south" I'm guessing this is an event that occurred high above Emery County or thereabouts. Re the "spots," I've now been sent photos that people are taking with their phonecams. Looks like three or four (depending on the photo) high altitude balloons of some kind. Supposedly shot around 12:30 PM today. I'm telling reporters there's no relationship between these dots (whatever they are) and the fireball. Seth, I saw this well and it was to the west of where I live in Murray, UT. I think it was above Tooele County and headed about 170 degrees. If anything hit the ground, I think Emery County is a possibility but when I saw it, it was west of Salt Lake County. Spectacular however. Rodger C. I see that Mallincam has an all-sky camera for $300 now. If that turns out to be any good then perhaps we'll see a few of them pop up around the area. That will help with the video coverage issues. Clear skies, Dale. -----Original Message----- From: Utah-Astronomy [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Seth Jarvis Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2014 3:27 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Spots near Sun Better home security cam videos are appearing, consistent with a decently bright fireball that's definitely _not_ above Salt Lake County.
