Re: [Utah-astronomy] Liver & Onions Subcommittee
Aug. 3 is fine. Just remind us old coots a little before. Thanks, Joe ------------------------------ On Wed, Jul 17, 2013 4:09 PM MDT Chuck Hards wrote:
John, we usually talk about astronomy, telescope making & astro-imaging, other branches of science, history, aviation, pretty much anything. Astronomy is the common interest among us, but it turns out we share many other interests as well. Several amatuer radio operators often attend. They are the ones who set up a Yagi on the chair next to them.
We also talk about other SLASers behind their backs and point out their foibles, always a great source of amusement.
You can even bring something for show-and-tell. Your latest eyepiece or astro-gadget, for example. Spouses and well-behaved children are welcome. Well, since I attend, I guess poorly-behaved children can come too. We have members from age 1 to 80, and everything in-between.
Sub-director Bau has put it very well; we do only have that one rule. Thou Shalt Not Disparage The Liver & Onions, Or Those Who Consume It. Spouses who don't like it can rag on you all the home in the car, however. That's perfectly acceptable.
It started out as a semi-regular luncheon for SLAS friends who enjoy liver and onions but has grown to include other people who's sense of taste isn't quite as refined.
The fresh-baked pies at our current venue are especially tasty, as well.
It's looking like August 3rd is the date most people can commit to, so let's plan it then.
Left Fork Grill 68 West 3900 South South Salt Lake
Noon. I'll call in the morning on the 3rd and have them reserve our table. Plenty of on-site parking is available.
Hope to see you all there!

life. You are welcome even if you (for some unfathomable reason) don't want liver & onions. The only restriction is the cardinal rule: you may not hold your nose, make snider comments or otherwise hassle the liver lovers among us. -- Joe

Some of us newbies aren't familiar with the, uh, shall we say raison d'eatre--I mean--etre. Is this kinda like "Advanced Training"? (And, yes, I'm sorry for the feeble attempt at a pun, but not sorry enough to edit it out.)
Can one of you connoisseurs clue in the clueless?
John
