Hello: The SLAS blast was incorrect in leading people to www.astroleague.org to make room reservations for ALCON 2011. The ALCON 2011 website is not up yet and so you need to go to the Ruby's Inn Website at www.rubyinn.com then go to "Reservations" and make your reservations there. RV and tent camping at Ruby's Inn are also available. If you decide to make a reservation for this, just call the main reservation number off of the Ruby's Inn website and mention ALCON 2011 for a discount off of the per person daily rate. I believe that as in the past, if you provide a telescope for public star parties, you may camp inside the park for free and have park admission for free. You may need to double check with Don Colton about this. Thank you. Lowell Lyon, ALCON 2011 Co-Chair
This link goes to something weird when I click it too. I think it needs to be www.rubysinn.com (it needs an s). -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Lowell Lyon Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2010 9:55 AM To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Utah-astronomy] ALCON 2011 Hello: The SLAS blast was incorrect in leading people to www.astroleague.org to make room reservations for ALCON 2011. I've gotten the impression that you can't get any discount rates by clicking on Ruby's Inn. The Rudy's Inn discounts are only available if you register thru the Astroleague site. --- On Wed, 11/10/10, Ann Blanchard <a.blanchard@ugs.utah.edu> wrote: From: Ann Blanchard <a.blanchard@ugs.utah.edu> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] ALCON 2011 To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Wednesday, November 10, 2010, 9:58 AM This link goes to something weird when I click it too. Not true. Dave Bernson sent out a SLAS blast that tells how to get your discounted rooms online. The only problem was he gave the ALCON website instead of Ruby's Inn. If you go to the Ruby's website and follow his instructions it works great. I just booked my rooms online at the discounted rate. You have until June 25 to cancel so it is worth reserving now. The disclaimer indicates it is non-refundable but the actual reservation says it can be cancelled up until June 25 at 4:00 PM. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of M Wilson Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2010 10:54 AM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] ALCON 2011 I've gotten the impression that you can't get any discount rates by clicking on Ruby's Inn. I had no trouble making a reservation on Ruby's site, you just have to use the code Lowell sent out. The link is www.rubysinn.com (needs the s in Ruby's), go to reservations and in the group section enter the code 38G in the Group section. Hi all on the UtahAstronomy list, I have been writing an astronomy blog, gratis, for almost two years and I would like you to respond to me privately with your opinion about it. My email is josephmbauman@yahoo.com. It's written for the Utah astronomical community, yet I have received very little commentary, either on the Deseret News blog site or through emails to UtahAstronomy. Is it too long to bother reading? Are the subjects not interesting? I am thinking about dropping it, if it's not useful or at least interesting to the state's astronomers. Please let me know your honest opinion, and I won't hold it against you at all whatever it is. If there is no or little response to this request, that's an indication too. Thank you, Joe
Joe, I enjoy reading your blog and hope you will keep doing it. One problem about comments is that the Deseret News requires a lots of red tape to respond. I have had to go through the fire drill more than once to post a comment. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Joe Bauman Sent: Saturday, November 13, 2010 12:40 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Sincere request for feedback Hi all on the UtahAstronomy list, I have been writing an astronomy blog, gratis, for almost two years and I would like you to respond to me privately with your opinion about it. Joe, I enjoy reading your blog and hope you will keep doing it. One problem about comments is that the Deseret News requires a lots of red tape to respond. I have had to go through the fire drill more than once to post a comment.

In all honesty Joe, I don't read it very often. I should bookmark it and add it to my list of 'must-read' sites, because every time I do read it, I do enjoy it and get at least 1 bit of knowledge out of it. I don't have it in my list of sites, because frankly, I already spend an hour or so just going through my email, catching up on the news, etc before work... That said, I do think that you should keep writing. I know it seems to be a thankless job with little feedback, but that's kinda the nature of blogging--especially with a site having a comment engine like the Dnews site--but trust that your articles are enjoyed by a good percentage of people. I'm sure you can access some sort of site stats that'd give you a little clearer picture of where visitors are coming from. Dan On Nov 15, 2010, at 10:02 AM, Don J. Colton wrote:

Ditto what Daniel had to say. I checked some of the other D-News blogs and there's a number of them that have few responses. The ones that garnered the most usually had to do with sports. --- On Mon, 11/15/10, Daniel Holmes <danielh@holmesonics.com> wrote: From: Daniel Holmes <danielh@holmesonics.com> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Sincere request for feedback To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Monday, November 15, 2010, 2:44 PM In all honesty Joe, I don't read it very often. I made my reservations by phone, google Ruby's Inn to get number.
This link goes to something weird when I click it too. I think it needs
to be www.rubysinn.com (it needs an s).

Hello:
The SLAS blast was incorrect in leading people to www.astroleague.org to make room reservations for ALCON 2011.
Thank you.

Okay, I just found this e-mail in my spam bin (thanks yahoo for diverting it). Just got thru calling Ruby's Inn on their toll free line and secured a room at the discounted price. Thanks for the info, Lowell. --- On Wed, 11/10/10, Lowell Lyon <bolide@sisna.com> wrote: From: Lowell Lyon <bolide@sisna.com> Subject: [Utah-astronomy] ALCON 2011 To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Date: Wednesday, November 10, 2010, 9:55 AM Hello: The SLAS blast was incorrect in leading people to www.astroleague.org to make room reservations for ALCON 2011. I had no trouble making the reservation on Ruby's site using the code in Lowell's e-mail. I suggest you go directly to Ruby's site not the Astronomical League's site and just use the code for a "group", 38G. It works.
