A small group of us are going out to Forest Road 006 south of Vernon to observe on Friday night. Your welcome to come along if you want. I've posted Google Maps on my blog at http://jaysastronomyobservingblog.blogspot.com/ and if you go to the bottom there are directions and pictures there of how to get to the site. Basically turn left off Hwy 36 after Vernon (south) to the Vernon Reservoir. Go on the dirt road for 5 miles and over 5 cattle guards. Come to the T intersection and a sign that shows Vernon Reservoir is to the left and two creeks are to the right. Go right at the T and down that road for 1/2 mile. Then look for 006 on a road sign (the thin ones) and turn left there. Go about 9/10 of a mile and look for us on the left. You'll see some Juniper as you pull in and were just past that in the open field. The trees are too low to worry about but there was some owls there! I'm observing on Saturday but location is not solid yet. -- Jay Eads

Anyone know if Wolf Creek is open yet? I know it is early, but this year has been unusual.... Jo
It seems likely it snowed up there this week.

I've been thinking about the Wedge. My wife's family lives in Castledale. On Apr 19, 2012 8:23 AM, <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:

Jo, The road to Hanna (not to be confused with the road to Hana on Maui :-) is open according to UDOT: http://commuterlink.utah.gov/CLALertViewer.aspx?CLType=3 The odd winter may justify an earlier exploratory drive...I usually don't even think doing that 'til late May. But I'd still think there would be quite a bit up there. Alta claims they have 8 feet up top -- a little higher and north facing though. On Thu, Apr 19, 2012 at 9:30 AM, David Bennett <dlbennett@mac.com> wrote:

Yeah, that's why I was leaning towards the Wedge. I know it's falling out of favor due to increased usage by non-astronomy types, but it's a better bet for early-season use than Wolf Creek.
