Anyone tried observing through this smokey haze? Just curious if we'll be able to see anything this weekend at the star party(s). Especially with the moon providing illumination. Clear skies (seriously!)Bruce Hugo
Good question. The smoke will cause some extinction, meaning objects will be dimmer and redder. Best to stick with objects at high elevations, avoid anything below about 40 degrees altitude. Objects overhead won't be affected as much and the star parties should have plenty of great views. My 2 cents. Right on the nose, Chuck. I left later than you, but driving home about 10:15, barely noticed the moon low in the west and was struck by how dim and orange it looked. Spooky actually. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chuck Hards" <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, August 20, 2015 10:41:52 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Smoke-Haze vs Star Party Did you notice how orange it was last night after leaving the SLAS meeting? I've continued work in my observatory despite the smoke. Imagery shows a slight light loss but not enough to worry about. patrick On 20 Aug 2015, at 07:46, Bruce Hugo via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:
