Hi All I did watch the video by Neal Adams, it was hard not to chuckle, it is pseudo science. I would like to point out expanding earth ideas and astrology have something in common. Adams explains that earth expansion has caused the position of the equator to change over time. Astronomy explains this by precession, as we know the point where the sun crosses from the south to the north (the beginning of spring), has been called the 1st Point in Aries. This is what all astrological charts are based on. Earth wobble has caused this to move from Aries to Pisces over the last 2000 years. This wobble has also changed climate zones on earth over that 2000 years, not expansion. Hence a well known observable phenom that the expansion idea fails to understand. I saw on the news, that an Astronomer, back east, went public with this last week. The astrological community reacted quickly to assure all astrologers that this is not true. I guess we should keep on open mind on astrology. As an actor said on Star Trek to Khan, " I try to obey but it is really hard". And of course we all are aware that astrological charts are way off when it comes to positions of the planets. Erik
First, another expanding earth/expanding universe comment: As some have noted, smaller forces have a greater effect in the local universe (i.e. my personal space) than the expansion of the universe. For example, I've noticed that the expansion of my local space is directly proportional to the caloric value of the mass that I consume, less the caloric value of the energy that I produce. I've also noticed that since high school, like the expansion of the universe, this phenomenon seems to be accelerating. (I had to pause for a sip from my drink of Dr. Pepper.) I apologize to anyone who may be offended by the following: I disagree with Erik; I don't think we need to keep an open mind about astrology. I am perfectly content in my contempt for it. Kim,
In contrast my personal space has been contracting, I weigh less now than when I was in high school, my waist line is larger though, expansion theory has a hard time explaining that. I also remember, before my fathers passing he had lost nearly 5 inches of height. I do like your humor, in truth, I also have nothing but contempt for astrology, of course you are well aware of my sarcastic nature. I gave earth expansion (I did listen) more respect than astrology, much more than I should of, for sure. Somethings are worth rejecting, Medical Research would be much scarier than it is if new ideas did not have a threshold that needs to be passed before trials of new ideas proceeded. I guess I could check with Bob Moore. Sig,
I thought you straightened Bob out on that. But seriously, Astrologers Charts have not acknowledge changing planet positions since the inception of Astrology. Erik "And of course we all are aware that astrological charts are way off when

I have read some astrology sites and have found that on many of the more serious ones, they do know abour precession and have acknowledged that the charts used in the Western World are indeed off by one full constellation. I also read on one site that astrology charts in India are up to date as to what sign the sun is in. As a side note, I wonder why the two tropical lines that are found on all globes aren't updated to read "Tropic of Gemini" and "Tropic of Sagitarius". Also, has anyone read Ann Cannon's article in Saturday's Salt Lake Tribune? She almost got it right about the astrological signs being off. Problem is, she thinks it's all because Ophiucius has been recognized by Dr. Kunkel in Michigan ... or Wisconsin ... or (?) ... as being a 13th Zodiacal Constellation. --- On Sat, 1/15/11, erikhansen@thebluezone.net <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote: From: erikhansen@thebluezone.net <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] 1st Point of Aries and Astrology.
