I just viewed the new nebula at this website. http://www.balinka.com/m78c.jpg Here is the original image. WKAA Gallery :: Jay McNeil's Astrophotography :: 18 Enjoy! Debbie
Deb, that's sensational! Do think this is a new nebula or just newly discovered? Thanks, Joe
Call me a hopeless romantic, but if I didn't know better I would think close-ups in today's postings from Spirit were views of rocks from one of the more fossiliferous Utah locations for Middle Cambrian specimens! These look like fossil imprints to me. Check out Sol 44, microscopic imager. Check the detail in the impressed areas of the sharper views. Best wishes, Joe http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/spirit_m044.html
PS, I see it doesn't show up in the color view so I guess it's a newly-formed nebula. I'm having trouble imagining how that could happen. Or is it really an odd comet? Quite interesting! Thank you for sharing. -- Joe
Debbie I saw M78 the other night with the Orion 80mm, but what I didn't see is part of Barnard's Loop as I blieve is what the red is in the 2nd URL.
