Congrats on chasing-down the dream, Dave. Good luck! And definitely stay on the board. Once you get done with school and get hired, we'll expect a "Big Scopejocky's" blog! And what a coincidence. My "late bloomer" dream is to move to Hawaii when I turn 92, then spend the rest of my life getting wasted on the beach. ;-) On Wed, Jan 9, 2013 at 5:14 PM, Dave Bennett <dlbennett@mac.com> wrote:
My wife Kea and I moved here in July with my 87 year-old mum, two dogs, and a 20 ft. shipping container. I'll be going back to school in the Fall at UH Hilo in astronomy to retool as a telescope operator for one of the observatories on Mauna Kea...pursuing my dreams as a late bloomer. Kea just happens to be from Hilo, the astronomy capital of the world (after Salt Lake of course :-)
I checked on Dave and Kea in November on their home-turf. I was fortunate enough to attend a conference on the Big Island. It was great to see them and they are doing well. Kea is teaching dance at UH Hilo. They do indeed live in a uniquely wonderful place. I think that Dave should help organize a Utah Astronomy visit to Mauna Kea when he can. And when he is an operator! How cool would that be? Talk about making your dreams come true. Good for you, Dave. -A
