It was rather obvious that it isnt (I looked for a handful of slas people that would definitely be part of it, if it was) and I still find it rather strange to be honest, you would assume that 1 or 2 persons “you know from here” would be in it maybe its just something new, no idea though, im not too much on facebook to be interested on it, I just go on it enough to stalk people.

OAS and SLAS both appear to have about the same amount of activity... I guess that's why the email list runs so strong. On Tue, Aug 2, 2011 at 10:40 AM, Dunn, David <David.Dunn@supervalu.com>wrote:

I don't "do" Facebook and probably never will. What do you people do to have all this free time? It boggles the mind.
You might be singing a different song when you're 65, my friend. Life can get lonely. ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 2, 2011 11:15 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Utah Astronomy Group on Facebook I don't "do" Facebook and probably never will. I have been Facebooking now for about three years. I'm up to two "friends". Over those three years I have "Liked" several companies so I might win a giveaway. I have "Liked" the SLAS facebook page and it has helped keep me informed about some things I might have missed. While like others I do not feel I have the time to spend constantly on Facebook, I do feel somewhat disconnected from the world around me. I don't necessarily care for the world I'm not connected to, "tweets" "wall posts" etc. but I do feel out of the loop sometimes. .

It is what you make out of it. You don't have to spend your whole day on it, but it is a very convenient way to keep up with people. As far as the astronomy groups go, it is quite similar to this mailing list, with the exception that users can post pictures directly to the feed, and links show up with a thumbnail and introduction. I rarely spend my whole day on it, usually i'm heavily focused on Angry Birds :) On Tue, Aug 2, 2011 at 11:35 AM, Steve Fisher <iotacass1@hotmail.com> wrote:

Ah, there it is. If people want to keep up with me, I'd appreciate a phone call or a letter. Life isn't scheduled so tightly that I need updates-on-demand for everyone even remotely connected to my world. Also, some of the most interesting friends of mine don't do Facebook either. Facebook just has nothing to offer me that works better than what I have in place already. Will that change one day? Who can say? For now, it seems more of a distraction, than useful tool.

I blame the demise of the neighborhood pub. We don't gather anymore, except through video screens.

I understand Joe, but I've always actually preferred alone time, as long as it's not taken to extremes. I'm not quite ready to go live in the Alaskan wilderness cabin. The other problem is that I am not fond of computer time, regardless of if it's work or fun. Way too sedentary for my personality and lack of attention span. Besides, I'll still be working 50 hours per week when I'm 65, if my health holds up. I don't see retirement in my future at all. Stay out of divorce court, kids.
