See what happens after Joe retired :)
Boy, ace science writer Joe hasn't even been retired a week and already international science related journalism is falling apart. Never would have happened if Joe was still on the job. So, Joe, do you feel guilty enough to go back to work? NASA Statement on Student Asteroid Calculations: http://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2008/apr/ HQ_08103_student_asteroid_calculations.html And some background: http://cosmos4u.blogspot.com/2008/04/apophis-risk-not-increased- science-fair.html The folks on the minor planet mailing list are having a lot of fun with this. Grins, patrick
Oh I feel awful about retiring -- HEE HEE HEE HEE! The paper gives retirement presents based on $25 for every full year of employment there. In my case it amounted to $900. I spent it and a little more of my own money ordering astronomical gear from Oceanside Photo and Telescope, my favorite outlet. So now I have both my original Meade Superwedge and my new Meade Ultrawedge, which is much improved. I don't know what to do with the Superwedge, which works as well as it ever did. In fact, I think it works better because I reinforced a connection so it won't slip like it did before. Any suggestions? Thanks, Joe PS: My Deseret News email is still working, but to be sure that messages get through to me in the future, people can contact me at josephmbauman@yahoo.com. Hope to see you soon at a star party. jb On Thu, 17 Apr 2008, Patrick Wiggins wrote:

Yes. If there's room, install a permanent pier and wedge in your yard. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just something you can set your scope on and start observing. Sure the skies in the SL valley are not great but you'd be surprised how much you can still see. And it will also help you learn and develop techniques that can be employed when you go to a dark site.

I removed your D News address from the list. You should continue to receive list postings at your yahoo address. I'm going to send this message to both the list and your yahoo address. Let me know if you do not receive it from both. patrick
Apologies for posting this for a second time. I heard from Joe that he did not receive the list copy so I'm trying a second time (See Ann B. you are not the only one the list picks on. <grin>) to see if it works. Fellow retiree! :) On 17 Apr 2008, at 10:07, Joe Bauman wrote:
