I'm having a brain fart about what I was doing June 5, 2004. I know I didn't see the transit. I can't remember even being aware of it. I remember being in Scot Crosby's backyard for the 2003 transit of Mecury. What time did the 2004 Venus transit begin? I've found references for it being watched in the US just before sunset. Deloy

That is not true, we had a viewing party at the 7200 So Harmon's. As I recall the sun set before last contact though. Perhaps they are meaning viewing the entire transit.

I also have a vague memory of setting up at East High School with the clubs DayStar with Kim Hyatt and I think Dave Bennett, for some sort of solar event.
These things kind of run together and get blurred with time. The last solar maximum I set up the DayStar H-alpha weekly at requested public locations. BTW, the 50mm f30 scope I have is available for loan, although you would need to check with Roger Butz about using the clubs Daystar H-alpha filter. It is adapted to fit G-11 mounts, It does give outstanding views. Erik "There's a little black spot on the sun today

Kim, I had my telescope (Baader film filter) set up at work in the parking lot. Actually had a pretty good crowd, including a few who were driving by, and stopped to see what was going on. As I recall, it was a very good pass, but a very tiny shadow, of course. No camera, so no pictures. Hope to get some today. 73, lh On 6/5/2012 2:31 PM, Kim wrote:

Looks much clearer here in the South Valley, think I'll watch it from home and stay with my white dwarf companion.
Wind now 55mph in Davis. Occasional sucker holes.

Can someone tell me where besides the Natural History Museum and the U of U, folks are planning to set up public events in the greater SL area today? Thanks. If any of you are asked about Utah County, I'll be at next to the big Novell building just off University Ave. in Provo between 4 and 6.
