Re: [Utah-astronomy] Report on Alta-Save-Our-Canyons star party
I really enjoyed the location. I hope there will be future star parties there. The scenery is always breathtaking at Alta and it's not too far away. I enjoyed meeting many of you and looking through your scopes. My daughter and I had a good time. Thank you. I had one question about the party. I could not tell if some of the folks with the Save Our Canyons group were a little sloshed or maybe the stars were really THAT amazing. Did anybody else get that vibe? Maybe the people that I am referring to were not even associated with Save Our Canyons at all. I do not know. I mean know offense. On 2008-07-28 04:47, Rodger Fry wrote:
Kurt, The attendance at the star party was great. We had at least 15 telescopes set up at the parking lot near the top of the Albion lift. The
skies were fairly dark (to the north-east-south) we chased clouds much of
the evening and had wind set in about 11:00 PM which kicked up much dust from the dirt parking lot. The location does have potential

How did the SOC star party go? What was the seeing like at Alta? - Kurt

Alcohol consumption does take place up the canyon. I heard a comment that the parking lot was very "rutted" out and perhaps a better graded parking lot might have been better.

Personally, I've always thought a bit of champagne would go well with a star party, given the quote attributed to the monk Dom Perrignon about tasting champagne, "come quickly, I am tasting stars!" P.S. If anyone does an Alta star party again, come well prepared with mosquito repellent, they were hungry beasts. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Chuck Hards Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 9:31 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Report on Alta-Save-Our-Canyons star party I know I've done my part at Alta on more than one occassion. I find Astronomy almost impossible after a couple glasses of wine. At the very least, hazardous to my equipment.

When I"m not driving home afterward, I typically enjoy a beer or two at the end of the session. Helps me get to sleep in a sleeping bag when in the field, and is just a good way to end the evening no matter what you've been doing. On Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 3:28 PM, <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:
