An extremely kind donation made possible by Patrick's first wife
Dear fellow astro-folk, I want you to know about a wonderful donation to the Humane Society of Utah, given by our own Patrick Wiggins and made possible by his first wife, Collie. When I came across the press release and asked him about it, he modestly said, "After all, I only wrote the check. It was Collie who made it possible by leaving me the money." However we look at it this is a really nice gift, which will help a lot of little creatures. The press release is here: http://utahhumane.org/about%20us/news/Patrick%20%2526%20Pumpkin%20Donation A video, showing Pumpkin (Patrick's cat), Collie and Patrick, is here: http://utahhumane.org/ -- just go to the site and click on Pumpkin's picture under the "Daily Wag" heading. Then let's all thank Pumpkin, Collie and Patrick. -- Joe
Indeed, thanks for the gift, I'm sure the animals appreciate it. My wife and I recently adopted a cat from the Humane Society. On Fri, Aug 19, 2011 at 8:59 AM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

Patrick is somewhat of an enigma. Thrifty when spending money on himself, yet his generosity toward others (including SLAS, btw) is boundless. As a cat owner and animal lover myself, thank you Patrick! I met Collie several times when she and Patrick first moved to SLC. I am honored to have known both of them.
Is Patrick a cat person or dog? The Humane Society is a good organization, although I did not get my dog there the people who gave her to me got her at an adoption fair sponsored by them.

I agree wholeheartedly with the thank-you. I am a fierce respecter of animals and I dearly love cats. Many creatures that we take for granted are intelligent and feeling; a cat who's treated well can show those aspects. I'm really proud of Patrick. -- Joe ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, August 19, 2011 12:44 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] An extremely kind donation made possible by Patrick's first wife Patrick is somewhat of an enigma.
