Hi Shoshana; Let me jump in here and strongly warn against using an eyepiece filter to view the sun. It is much safer to use a full aperture filter. Especially with a larger aperture dobsonian, so much light is concentrated at the eyepiece that if an eyepiece filter alone is used, all that light energy can cause the filter to fail and therefore do damage to your viewing eyeball. A proper solar filter which covers the aperture of the telescope will filter the sunlight to safe levels before it is focused. Safe solar observing! I misspoke. I meant to be addressing 'Sun Parties' as there are many opportunities for weeknight sky viewing. Maybe I can fit a telrad filter and an eyepiece filter into a borrowed Dob? Is this possible and if not, maybe not the right way to go about viewing the sun in a Dob due to its major light collecting bucket function!
