Cold of winter, haven't been able to image for a while, so I've been working on processing techniques. I decided to play around with the "Drizzle" function in Deep Sky Stacker. It is really good at enlarging and increasing the resolution of a stack of images, and was developed by Nasa for use with Hubble Deep Field work. You can read about the feature here:

So I did a 2x drizzle on the M51 stack to see what sort of detail I could pull out of it and how big I could get it. Here is the result so far:

After the stack was finished, I used some of the techniques talked about by Ken Crawford in the "Depth of Field Processing" tutorial here to sharpen the details in the galaxy up a bit using photoshop.
