Thanks Mat! I'll have to try this during the week, I generally only shoot solar images at prime focus, I haven't tried afocal with my D7000. I'm trying to nail down my shooting process for the eclipse next week, I'm not sure if I want to use the telescope or just go wider with the 70-300mm, I might end up using both depending on the location I choose to shoot from. (meaning if it's easy to get the telescope set up there) --- On Wed, 5/9/12, Hutchings, Mat (H USA) <mat.hutchings@siemens.com> wrote:

The lens is the basic, 18mm-55mm Nikkor for the D40. Simple zoom, not a macro, nor is it a "VR" lens.

Great image Mat!
Just a quick question for clarification of your technique you said you handheld your D40 to the eyepiece, the meta data says that you used a 32mm focal length so I'm assuming you were using a zoom lens? was it a Macro lens by chance or a regular telephoto?
Thanks! Howard
