Kelly, as big as the comet is, the solar system is even bigger. Earth isn't that far from it right now, relatively speaking, and look how small it appears in our sky. If the camera were only as far away as the orbit of Jupiter, PanSTARRS would be the tiniest of smudges. Much further than that, and you wouldn't be able to spot the comet at all. And Chuck, I agree completely about the image of the comet near Andromeda. On APOD I was surprised to learn that Pan-STARRS is currently the largest object in our solar system...pretty incredible to try and imagine! I wish someone could get a shot looking back at the solar system so the true scale of it could be appreciated.
