I just woke up after spending being awake all day yesterday and last night driving down south to watch the space shuttle reenter earth-space. I hope to have a color slide and color print of the sight when I get the films developed. My daughter, however, was able to get some video footage as it nearly passed overhead. How sad it is to now hear that sometime after we heard the sonic-boom after it disappeared from sight that such a disaster has happened.

Deb,

I take it at that time nobody there in the St. George
area noticed anything amiss with the spacecraft?

I feel heartsick over this horrible tragedy; a
terrible blow to space exploration and another grim
reminder just how much risk there is to the brave men
and women who are willing to commit to the frontiers
of discovery.

I sure hope this doesn't set things back too far at
NASA, like the aftermath of the Challenger accident
did.

And, if only the Bush admin. had as much interest in
scientific exploration as they seem to have in taking
down Saddam... sigh!
