This is excellent advice from a professional, accustomed to the care and feeding of high-dollar optics. Truthfully, it takes a rather astonishing buildup of dust to seriously degade imagery, whereas just a few scratches from too-frequent or improper cleaning can degrade an image much more noticeably...and, its permanent.
